ACTING FOR BEGINNERS

Have you always wanted to join an acting class but never quite got around to it? Maybe you would like to build confidence and meet like-minded people? Do you have to make presentations in work and find it scary? If so then this course is the perfect place to start.
In the hands of a qualified and very experienced facilitator you will be introduced to basic acting skills and technique. During\the eight-week course we will cover the basics inc, theatre games and exercises, improvisation, bringing script from page to stage, stage movement etc.

ACTING BEGINNERS

This part-time course introduces the student to the basics of Acting. A hands-on practical approach gets the creative juices flowing and explores new and inventive ways to improve communication skills and have fun. Supportive environment allows participants to develop stage craft through Script, Theatre Games/Exercises, Improvisation, and Voice Work.
We focus mainly on script, exploring character development, and bringing a scene to life through solo and group work.
Each term has a different emphasis term one and two end with the opportunity to present work within the classroom to fellow participants. At the end of term three there is a showcase performance for friends and family.
Students who complete all three terms will receive the Academy certificate
This course is lots of fun and a great way to get to know new people and explore new ways to communicate.

ACTING THEATRE COMPANY

IMPROVERS / ADVANCED ONE YEAR COURSE
Time: Tuesday Evening 8pm – 9.30pm
Venue:
Carmelite Community Centre, (next to Whitefriar St Church) Aungier Street Dublin.
This part-time course is designed for those who have completed the Acting for Beginners course or the equivalent. With an emphasis on script the course will further develop stage craft concentrating on bringing participants to performance level. During the year the group forms a Theatre Company and are guided through all aspects of mounting a production which is performed in a hired venue over three nights at the end of third term... A high level of commitment is expected for this course.

COST €760 per year payable as follows:

SINGING FOR FUN
Autumn 2009– Summer 2010
BEGINNERS/IMPROVERS
TIME: Monday evening 6.30pm – 8pm

This course will suit singers of all abilities and styles and will focus on the joy of singing and developing the personality, vocal range and style of each individual singer. Voice technique and warm-ups will form the backbone of the course. We will look at different genres of music, including, classical, Jazz, Musical theatre, Traditional, Folk, Popular, World music, etc. All Students will work on chosen songs throughout the duration of the course. Special attention will be paid to tackling performance nerves. Study of Scales, Chords, Rhythm, etc. Small class to ensure individual attention.
TERM ONE: Monday 5th October – Monday 30th November
No class 26th October
TERM TWO: Monday 18th January – Monday 8th March
TERM THREE: Monday 15th March – Monday 17th May
Showcase Wednesday 19th May
No class 5th, 12, April, or 3rd May

- Tutors are very experienced working Theatre professionals
- Depending on experience and availability of places students may be admitted in term two or three. Please contact the Academy
- Minimum age eighteen years. There is no upper age limit. Generally the age range of classes is very broad.
- No previous experience required except for Acting Theatre Company
- Supportive friendly atmosphere
- Please dress to allow for ease of movement. Soft soled shoes recommended
- Academy reserves the right to cancel courses at any time if insufficient numbers apply.
- Fees must be paid in full before students enter classes and are non refundable.

SATURDAY STAGE
ACT - DANCE – SING
This part-time stage school is for young people between the ages of 7 – 18 years divided into Junior, Intermediate and Senior levels. Students participate in Acting, Dance and Singing Workshops over a three hour period. Junior Stage School takes place on a Saturday morning from 10am – 1pm at Rathdown School Glenageary . Intermediate and Senior Stage School takes place at St Joseph Church Pastoral Centre, Glasthule, on a Saturday afternoon from 2pm – 5pm. Acting class includes confidence building, improvisation, play-making, script, mime, poetry etc. Singing includes Breath Control, Vocal Technique, Singing with confidence, Songs from the Musicals, Songs of your choice. Technique employed whilst putting across a song, etc. Dance includes Jazz, Modern and Hip-Hop. Dance Drama etc. We encourage a natural performance style.
- The year consists of three ten -week terms.
- There will be two studio performances during the year in December and April
- All students may apply to join the Academy Casting Agency

Drama & Performance workshops place a strong emphasis on individual attention and self-confidence building. Course will be led by Joy Forsythe LLSM/Director & founder of IADA. With twenty six years teaching and theatre experience Joy brings a fresh approach to children’s drama & performance workshop. Class size is very restricted to ensure individual attention and each student is encouraged to reach their potential in a non-competitive environment. Participation and team-work is central to this process. Students as young as six will be guided to devise their own performance pieces. Bringing a script from page to stage will be taught, encouraging a natural, believable style. Clear speech will be encouraged and taught through exercises and need to communicate a story. Performance technique will be taught in a practical, fun environment where ownership of work, developing imagination, building confidence & team skills are highly valued. Workshops are lively & stimulating. Activities include script, poetry, improvisation & play-making, mime, drama games & exercises, costume, mask, etc.

May 2009 Theatre Company put on a production at the Teacher’s Club
Theatre for a week in May, which played to packed houses.
December 2009 Three studio productions took place in Dalkey, Glenageary and Glasthule, with the Junior two class in Dalkey performing an original play devised by the group which was then scripted.
